1. Critical Alerts
QatarEnergy Force Majeure declared – Iranian drones hit Ras Laffan and Mesaieed, taking 20% of global LNG supply offline. QatarEnergy confirmed Force Majeure to all affected buyers. Minimum 2 weeks to restart liquefaction, another 2 to reach full capacity. Asia LNG benchmarks +39%, European gas +54%. Shanaka’s mechanism breakdown: this isn’t a price shock, it’s a contract collapse – every Asian LNG contract just became a spot market problem. CONFIDENCE: HIGH
China halts all diesel and gasoline exports – Sinopec and PetroChina ordered to stop. Beijing has ~10 days of domestic buffer before industrial operations face real constraints. Silver Santa and ZeroHedge both confirm. Economic shockwave hits every container port within 6-8 weeks if Hormuz stays closed. The oil supply shock and the Chinese manufacturing shock are not the same event. The second is larger. CONFIDENCE: HIGH
IRIS Dena torpedoed – Indian Ocean now a battlefield – First US submarine torpedo kill since WWII. Iranian frigate returning from India’s International Fleet Review (74 nations attended) was struck ~40nm off Sri Lanka. 87 dead confirmed, 101 missing, 32 rescued. Shanaka’s full sequence includes second Iranian vessel (Bushehr) now in Sri Lankan waters. Every naval officer on earth just learned the same lesson: there is no safe transit corridor for an Iranian hull anywhere on earth. CONFIDENCE: HIGH (CENTCOM confirmed, Hegseth announced publicly)
US interceptors depleting – key radars destroyed – Qatar now firing PAC-2 missiles manufactured in 2000. MenchOsint via satellite imagery confirmed AN/TPY-2 THAAD radars destroyed in UAE, Jordan, with Prince Sultan (Saudi) likely also hit, plus $1.1B AN/FPS-132 at Al Udeid. Total radar losses exceeding $3.4B. Pentagon preparing ~$50B emergency supplemental. Raytheon produces ~37 THAAD interceptors per year. CONFIDENCE: HIGH (satellite confirmed)
Iranian ballistic missile intercepted near Turkey – NATO Article 5 near-miss – Missile crossed Iraq and Syria before NATO air defense engaged it over Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey MoD official statement confirmed, ambassador summoned. Iran denied launching it. Shanaka analysis: either Iranian C2 degraded past the point of control, or the calculus changed. Hegseth declined to confirm Article 5 applicability – silence is itself the answer. Iran read it. CONFIDENCE: HIGH (Turkey MoD statement)
2. Core Themes
The Hormuz actuarial blockade
Tanker traffic down 90-94%. All 12 P&I clubs (covering 90% of global ocean-going tonnage) cancelled war risk coverage effective March 5 midnight. No commercially insured vessel can legally transit.
Trump announced Navy escorts. Iran answered by asking what those escorts guarantee when you can’t protect a $1.1B radar inside your own most fortified base. The market declined to disagree – oil announcement caused a 4.5% drop, then fully reversed within hours.
Goldman forecasts Hormuz flows restart in 5 days, fully normalized by mid-April. The market is pricing this. Shanaka disagrees: 72 hours to close, 6-18 months for full insurance reinstatement. Red Sea took 26 months and never triggered full P&I withdrawal.
132 container ships with 458,000 TEU capacity trapped inside the Gulf. Maersk suspended all bookings for UAE, Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Iraq. Five of the world’s top carriers simultaneously stopped moving Gulf cargo.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
Silver physical scarcity going critical
SGE silver vaults fell another 13 metric tons last week to 445 metric tons. SHFE vaults fell 22 metric tons in a single day to below 300 metric tons. Combined Shanghai vaults: 752 metric tons (24.2M oz). Solve Nettug confirmed new record lows.
Silver Santa reporting: Shanghai silver at $97.54 on SHFE. COMEX at $84-86. 14% premium on physical vs paper. This gap does not exist in a functioning market.
COMEX total inventory fell 2.95M oz in single day to 352.2M oz. Registered fell 842K oz to 87.1M oz. TF Metals: total open interest fell to 113,326 contracts – lowest since September 30, 2013. All-time high was 244,705.
BOFA took 195 silver delivery notices, JP Morgan took 145, combined ~$55M in single-day physical. Dr. Don Woods explains banks smash paper price while accumulating physical.
Jane Street increased SLV position by 50,084.59% in Q4 2025. Bob Coleman’s analysis. Something is happening behind the curtain.
Two of China’s four largest banks (ICBC, ABC) sold out of investment gold bars. Bai Xiaojun. China Construction Bank selling silver panda coins at $137/oz equivalent.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH (exchange data, multiple confirmed sources)
Gold breaking records while paper traders paper-trade
Gold at $5,170+. Kobeissi Letter: 7 consecutive monthly gains – longest streak on record. Previous best was 6 months. GLD attracted $3.8B in inflows last week, 3rd-largest weekly inflow ever.
Gold overtook US Treasuries as largest reserve asset held by foreign central banks in Q3 2025. 23% of global reserves vs Treasuries at 22%. Shanaka’s de-dollarization analysis: the Iran war is not creating de-dollarization, it is revealing how far it had already progressed.
Venezuela deal: Trump brokered 1,000kg gold purchase from Minerven via Trafigura for US refineries, ~$150M+. Burgum flew to Caracas personally. Shanaka frames this as quiet resource repositioning across the Global South while the news cycle watches Tehran burn.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
US military capability limits exposed
~400 Tomahawk missiles burned in 3 days – approximately 5 years of supply. Pentagon requesting $50B emergency. Bomber progression from B-2 (stealth, for intact Iranian AD) to B-1 (supersonic, for degraded AD) to B-52 (subsonic, unstealth, for eliminated AD) tells you everything. Shanaka’s analysis: you send B-52s when there’s nothing left to shoot them down.
Three US F-15Es shot down by accident – a Kuwaiti F/A-18 fired three air-to-air missiles at three American jets. All six crew ejected safely. WSJ confirmed. Armchair Warlord’s theory: Iranian saturation attack flooded Kuwaiti airspace, collapsing IFF decision windows.
Armchair Warlord’s daily briefing: Pentagon admitted Coalition fighters being “stiff-armed” by Iranian defenses, most strikes being run in lob-bombing range of the border. Plan D: “Actually get air dominance and bomb indefinitely until they surrender.”
F-15E reportedly shot down over southwestern Iran, CSAR team entered Iranian airspace, extracted both crew. OSINTdefender sourced from multiple contacts. CENTCOM confirmation pending.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH (satellite imagery, official briefings, WSJ, CENTCOM)
Disinformation at industrial scale
Kurdish “ground invasion” of Iran – reported by Fox News, i24, Barak Ravid claiming US official confirmed. Denied within 2 hours by KDP, Komala, PJAK, Kurdistan deputy PM, Iranian security. Geroman called it immediately, Faytuks deleted posts.
UK confirmed the drone targeting RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus did not come from Iran. UK MoD official statement.
Spain “agreed to cooperate” per White House – Spain denied immediately. KC-135 tankers had already relocated to Germany and France.
Pakistan-managed operator ran 31 “Iran War Monitor” accounts, all created Feb 27. X/Nikita Bier confirmed and swept.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
Russia winning without firing a shot
Brent at $84 puts Russian Urals within reach of budget-balancing threshold for the first time since sanctions architecture was built. China and India switching back to Russian crude as Gulf supply disrupts – Moscow now has pricing power it didn’t have two weeks ago. Shanaka’s full analysis.
Putin musing aloud about cutting gas to Europe now rather than waiting for 2027. Silver Santa flagged. Russia also warned of pipeline sabotage preparations against Blue Stream and Turkish Stream.
The hidden second front: if Russia enters 2026 with an unexpected energy windfall, the Ukraine war’s trajectory changes.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
Hezbollah not actually destroyed
Hezbollah issued 22 military statements on March 4 alone. Hit 6 Merkava tanks, struck Haifa naval base with specialized missiles, targeted Tel Aviv 6 times. MenchOsint confirms. Israeli official acknowledged to Channel 13: “We made a mistake regarding Hezbollah and didn’t expect them to launch with this force.”
IDF attempting ground operation toward Khiam – Hezbollah detonated IED, inflicted confirmed casualties, forced withdrawal. Also opening broader invasion of southern Lebanon with 91st and 146th Reserve Armored Divisions.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
South Korea meltdown
KOSPI -12.06% – worst single session in exchange history. Circuit breakers triggered for third straight day. Samsung -10%, SK Hynix -12%. Shanaka’s semiconductor supply chain framing: Samsung + SK Hynix control 67% of DRAM and 80% of HBM. South Korea imports 97% of its energy. Through Hormuz. The AI supercycle has a chokepoint nobody modeled.
KOSPI then bounced +12% next session – ZeroHedge: “momentum kamikazes.” Bitcoin simultaneously hit one-month high as Korean retail fled chips into crypto.
Foreign investors sold -$13.7B Korean stocks in February (record monthly outflow). Another -$3.1B this week.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH
3. Weak Signals
E-6B “Looking Glass” nuclear command aircraft deployed – Two launched simultaneously, one toward Gulf, one east over Atlantic. Shanaka’s analysis: these fly in training OR emergency. The architecture cannot fake urgency. Deployed when someone calculates the risk is real, not after. Also: Minuteman III ICBM tested “as scheduled” same week Trump said “the big one is coming.”
Chinese Navy escorting tankers through Hormuz – Type 055 destroyer Lhasa transited March 4 to escort Chinese-owned oil tankers. Eric Yeung. IRGC confirmed: only US, European, and Israeli ships are targets. Chinese and Russian vessels pass freely. Strait selectively closed, not universally.
Aluminium Bahrain Force Majeure – SilverTrade flagged: 9% of global aluminum supply gone, smelter requires 6-12 months to restart. First force majeure in a non-silver metal. The mechanism is the same as silver – industrial supply removal with no fast restart.
AWS data centers struck in UAE and Bahrain – Shanaka’s cloud infrastructure analysis: the Gulf AI thesis ($500B Stargate UAE, 26 square kilometers, OpenAI, G42, Oracle, Nvidia, SoftBank) was built assuming physical security meant perimeter fences, not ballistic missile defense. That assumption just met reality.
War risk insurance 12x in 48 hours – From 0.125% to 1.5% of hull value. Shanaka: insurance is not a cost, it’s a gate. When premiums cross certain thresholds, Letters of Credit fail, and global trade stops – not just oil, everything.
4. Noise
Henrik Zeberg shorting silver – TheApeOfGoldStreet notes he’s called gold to $850 for 7 years. Fade accordingly.
Iranian “secret CIA outreach” NYT report – Immediately denied by Iran. JustDario caught in real time. Oil dropped 4.5%, fully reversed. Classic structure.
Epstein files being deleted – 47,635 pages withheld including Trump allegations per WSJ. Real news, zero market signal today.
Kurdish “invasion” of Iran – Fully debunked within 2 hours by every Kurdish party involved. Israeli psyop attribution broadly, though unconfirmed.

I’m getting the feeling that the Iranians are indeed going for a long, slow burn war. Until the US decamps from any place within 1000 kms from Iran. Vietnam with missiles. And oil tankers.
That Russia is very happy with this (for obvious reasons) and that China has decided to support this move and that this is the right moment to do it, calculating that it will be worth the economic pain China will suffer in a worldwide depression-like scenario, - if in exchange the US loses enough power to cease any future attempts to derail the rise of China. Instead of risking a near future with a potential direct China-US confrontation.
Any thoughts?
So either gold ran up in anticipation of such a major geopolitical event, or it ran up on other basis and is being manipulated not to rise in reaction to the current event.
