Smith's theories are not untrue, they come with the assumptions of strenuous regulations and enforcement against fraudsters, those who game the economic system and degrade the economic system especially with corporate monopolies, "divide and conquer" tactics as Amazon uses. If we had an abundance of small farms and businesses competing against each other with a sane federal government, not sanctioning or meddling in other countries sovereignty there would be hope that "free trade" and "capitalism" to work. Ron Paul and his like, especially the degraded economists in the Milton Friedman whorish tradition, speak a good game but in the end cave in to corruption, especially the international corporations which are like station wagon sized carp with no natural predators. It's well past the time for corporate death penalties for malfeasance and fraud, and the same for their enablers. The Constitution was based on a hard-working farm economy and a moral people. People left the farms for the cities and all the excitement there. Sad. Small farm-based economies have the best promise.
