A lot of good people are warning about an impending stock market crash.

People I tend to trust, just one problem -

Martin Rmstrong days that "this time is different", and we are in a period of sovereign debt crises. when capital will flee guvm'nt bonds and try to hide in private assets of all sorts, including stocks, gold, etc.

So he is expecting stocks to continued up together with gold, etc., into 2032, when he postulates that the whole world falls apart.

Well, more or less, I'm simplifying, of course.

So shorting the stock market is not a great idea, better to just br long gold, Pokemon cards, and whatever other hard assets you happen to fancy.

Some of it will surely survive and be worth something on the other side, don't you think?

Long Johnny Walker.

Trading stuff is easy.

Just buy stuff that goes up.

If it doesn't go up, don't buy it.

What's going up?

Electric metals - silver, copper

Silver is even the best heat conductor, what might that be worth per gram?

Japanese bond yields.

Russian ruble.

Sell Japanese bonds and buy Russian rubles?

Now why didn't I think of that . . .

Barter is better.

Barter is best.

The best form of trade.

bonds go down when the price goes up. So in your framework: don't buy it 😉

I'll trade you some serious hot pepper sauce or spray or in other forms as desired - for a case of Johnny Walker!

Is it a deal No. 1?

No1's avatar

Nah. Not even close. I don't like spicy. Like at all...

A case of Johnnys for a case of half Amaretto, half Limoncello and we're on.

I literally can't "resist" this - after a few questions I got this out of the "ai" Brave:

~

A 2% capsaicin solution is not commonly available as an over-the-counter product. Most consumer topical pain relief creams contain 0.025% to 0.1% capsaicin. Higher concentrations, such as 1% or 8%, are typically prescription-only (e.g., Qutenza patch).

However, 2% capsaicin may be available as a research chemical or custom formulation. Based on pricing for high-purity capsaicin powders and lab-grade solutions:

A small quantity (e.g., 25–100 mg) of high-concentration capsaicin solution could range from $75 to $200+, depending on purity and supplier.

For exact pricing, specialized suppliers like Alomone Labs or Chem-Impex offer capsaicin in powder or solution form for research, but 2% solutions are not standard stock items.

~

So if we are talking fair barter - lets say 100 mg of 2% capsaicin is worth nominally $100 US dollar.....well what is the value of one bottle of Johnny Walker - oh let me go check....

~

The cost of a Johnny Walker bottle varies significantly by label and market. Here are typical prices for 750 ml bottles:

Red Label: $21–$35

Black Label: $31–$47

Double Black: $43–$59

Green Label: $57–$75

Gold Label Reserve: $70–$85

Platinum Label (18 Year): $105–$119

Blue Label: $180–$312

Limited editions like Blue Label The John Walker can exceed $4,500. Prices vary by region and retailer.

~

So let me suggest, I got product to barter - and if you don't want it somebody else might, and local trade is preferred.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

No big deal....but some realize the value of capsaicin......whatever - I'll find somebody else to barter some Jonny Walker with!

😊🦬😊

No1's avatar

I didn't know that!

Still don't like spicy though.

Not even data-driven-spicy 😁

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Well peppa is my "side-hustle" I'd like to say, but reality is I've put my heart and soul into my pepper plants. I damn near love them.

The ones growing this season - glory be number 1 - they have potential to be most potent - and maybe we could work out a 3-way barter "deal" - somebody gets some Johnny Walker, somebody gets some capsaicin concentrated - and I get me some silver!

How you like them apples!

Running a Bandit Empire successfully requires attacking countries with stuff worth stealing, i.e. assets worth more than the cost of the wars required to get them.

Everyone that invaded Afghanistan learned the hard way that it was a poor country, with to little worth stealing.

The Brittish and the Russians back in the 1800:s fooled each other into attacking Afghanistan, Craig Murray has a really good book on that period.

Then the Soviets, and then the USA . . .

That was what ruined the Swedish Empire back in the 1700:s - the Swedish Warrior King was off pillaging all over Europe, but had to increasingly often write home to the Riksdag asking them to send more soldiers and more gold to keep his fun going - the spoils were not enough to pay for the whole mess.

When he was killed finally, with Sweden largely impoverished, with a seriously debased currency, the Riksdag got their act together finally and reformed the state system, removing the power of the King to do what kings mostly do - wage wars.

Russia became the dominant power in northern Europe and Sweden began to slowly recover.

Bandit Empire = any human society that was bigger and badder than their neighbour. Most recently that's the west and their colonialism, but it's something purely human. That want for your neighbours house, ground, wife, ...

Talking about Sweden, the Vikings were also part of that trend. Predating anything you mentioned by 1000 years.

As I said : inherently human.

Everything in the economy will be broken by the 4th of July so buy non-perishable food, store water and tune up your bicycle, sez this: https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/component/content/article/eight-weeks-to-empty-shelves-sixty-days-to-famine-what-caused-it-and-what-you-need-to-do-immediately

This will drag on until certain objectives are met, certain humans are forced to change ways of doing things, and certain financial effects are manifested, but details are all way above my pay-grade, because I'm not a member of that "great big exclusive club".

What many folks don't realize is it takes a ship months to traverse the waters. But if the ships out of the Straight of Hormuz are held in place, then the raw materials make the world go round so to speak have been cut of in supply - and supply disruptions are only now beginning to emerge in earnest - buy this was predicted - twas known the Straight would be cutoff - and one wonders - what was "Trump-team" thinking when they made this misbegotten choice to escalate the flux so. But there will be no hiding the lack of supplies starting about today I reckon and seems Trump team doesn't have the cards - rather they have been trumped - and now let the chips fall where they will I reckon.

Hope you planned in advance.

John Day MD's avatar

I've been planning for this since 1974, 10th grade, when I learned about "The Limits To Growth". We were in the Arab Oil Embargo that February. Everything made sense. I have been tracking it since then. Look, I lived to be 68 already!

My working hypothesis is that global industrial real economy was turning over into the long decline, anyway, and our owners needed a workable control-narrative to manage and cull us, and the truth never works for them...

Trump is playing Trump's role in this big production.

We just passed peak-global economy. this is what the management plan looks like.

Please proceed calmly in the line to the chute just ahead of you...

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Fair enough - some of us planned in advance and we have means to provide for ourselves locally. At the end of the day John Day MD - that is all that matters.

~

So I got 17 eggs when I came back after a 4 day departure give or take, and that is some serious protein these hens are sharing - so I have planned in advance - you have as well I suspect - but have others?

~

Fact of the matter is I'd rather be living somewhere rural versus in the big city when folks are soon enough to realize - that food supplies are in jeopardy. But here is the thing - the better side of humanity knows how to work together and knows that is the future - so eff the dipshits and the politicos and all the harm PROVEN they have caused - cause better ideas beckon.

~

Ask Kropotkin bout that John Day.

Warm Regards,

Ken

We have our rural homestead in the Texas coastal plains, with rich black soil, settled in the 1840s-1850s by German and Czech communities fleeing European wars, never a slave economy. It is currentlyu a mixed economy, including cattle and some grains, with fracking of the Eagleford Shale nearby, but it ends about 5 miles the other side of town.

It has 6000 people, a remarkably stable population, a rail line, 2 hardware stores, a good grocery store, HEB, the largest chain in Texas, family owned, a good employer.

If you look through some of my blog posts, the pictures at the end are typically the smaller Austin vegetable garden, with a wood fence, or the larger Yoakum garden, with open space.

I did plenty of homework. I have an 1100 gallon water tank collecting off a white metal roof, just in case.

We can survive long enough to be miserable. We hope some natural gas from all the nearby wells keeps coming to the town. It's miserable in the summer without AC, but I designed and built a house with excellent ventilation and a screen-porch, a "sleeping porch", they used to call them.

"C'mon Down!"

Tremendous - us folks in the southeast ought "get along" with Tejas - a big state indeed!

Well stated - tremendous!

Polymarket. Who is betting on a regime falling by JUNE 30?

Is that a warning nuclear power will be used?

Do you know how much $ was bet?

Is that person related to a politician?

Is what person related to a politician? Hells-Bells, where I reside we all know politicians and most of us are related.

As for failure by June 30, I propose a betting round on this - here are the odds just now per my discenernment:

~~~~ ODDS ~~~~
* Complete failure of the gubment: 5%
* More of the same: 45%
* Something big changes and everybody knows: 20%
* Nothing changes all going according to plan: 15%
* Unknown: 15%
~~~

Place your bets - as the host of the bets I keep 1% or maybe nothing - just depends....but place your bets and may the best ideas prevail!
