>> WSJ: Iran's Hormuz leverage "is breaking down, raising the risk it will resort to military escalation"

I don't think Iran is losing its grip on Hormuz. it might allow crude to leave, but iran is not allowing (and no one is risking transporting) non-crude exports. the main way of transporting crude is still StS, which indicates iran is turning a blind eye to that. they know that the real bottle neck at the moment is refined products, which are not leaving Hormuz. Qatar extended its LNG force majeure. gulf refineries are not exporting refined products. at the same time, Iran is keeping the region "warm" for the moment (hitting ca. one tanker / day) while negotiating with regional states for a solution. i think, if full-blown attacks resume, Iran will escalate accordingly

Just some FYI for perspective as I did a little research last night.

Yemen is the size (actually bigger) of California, mountainous and actually the wettest state in the middle east (most rain). The population is about 43 million and they are mostly Shia muslim. Yemenites are Arab.

Saudi Arabia is of course much larger (about the size of 3 Texas's) but only has a population of 35 million. They are the leaders of the Sunni muslim world. They are Arabs.

Iran is the size of Alaska. Or better comparison because no one can understand how big Alaska is. Iran is the size of Texas, California, Montana and Illinois combined. (population 93 million). Iran is the leader of the Shia muslim world. They are Persians, not Arabs.

Pakistan is the size of Texas and has a population of 260 million people (!). Pakistan is mostly Sunni and they are Indian's, not Arabs.

HTH.
